What if?

I’ve fixed up a room for my daughter
For when she returns from Lidice
She will come back to feathered comfort.
She never came back.
The room still awaits her
Because what if?

I’ve fixed up a room in my father’s house
For when all my brothers and sisters come together
They will know their father and their mother.
They never came back.
The room still awaits them
Because what if?

I’ve fixed up a room in my heart
For when my hope returns from nowhere
It will find a home filled with sunshine.
It never came back.
The room still awaits
Because what if?
